Motorists in Britain have been encouraged not to drive into a petrol station if their car is on fire.

''If you realise that your car might be alight when you are driving, pull over at the first available opportunity, but try to avoid exposing other people to risk.''

Kent Fire & Rescue have warned people to be careful after one man noticed his Renault car was engulfed in flames and then decided it would be a good idea to drive into the garage, but fortunately nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesperson told the Medway Messenger: ''If you realise that your car might be alight when you are driving, pull over at the first available opportunity, but try to avoid exposing other people to risk.''
