Parts of 'Star Trek Into Darkness' were filmed outside of the US for the first time in the franchsie's history.

''Some shots for Into Darkness were filmed in Iceland, the first time any Star Trek film has shot outside of the United States.''

The popular sci-fi movie series broke with tradition to shoot sections of its forthcoming motion picture - which stars Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch and Simon Pegg - in Iceland instead of its usual home in America.

What's more, the movie is so widely anticipated that customer demand caused the website of London's IMAX cinema to crash when advanced tickets were released.

An infographic created by Virgin Media to celebrate the release of the film tomorrow (09.05.13) stated: ''Some shots for Into Darkness were filmed in Iceland, the first time any Star Trek film has shot outside of the United States.''

''When advanced tickets for Into Darkness went on sale in the UK, customer demand crashed the London IMAX's website.''
