£12,000 diamond falls from sky

A £12,000 diamond has fallen from the sky.

''Whoever finds our diamond really does get to keep it, so we are encouraging the general public to go out and start searching for it.''

The precious stone was attached to a helium balloon and sent into the atmosphere by London jewellery company, 77 Diamonds, where it stayed for 150 minutes before the balloon popped and it fell back down to earth.

It is believed the diamond - which is being tracked by GPS - travelled over 60 miles before starting its descent.

77 Diamonds co-founder Tobias Kormind, said: ''77 Diamonds has a long history of helping people to find the perfect diamond for an extra-special event in their lives.

''Whoever finds our diamond really does get to keep it, so we are encouraging the general public to go out and start searching for it.''

The stone is believed to have fallen somewhere over Gainsborough in Lincolnshire, north western England.
