Town's doggie mayor

An American town has a dog as its mayor.

Lucy Lou the border collie beat a cat, a possum, a jackass and a host of other creatures to be elected in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky.

She is the third dog to hold the post since it was first created in 1998.

The sole human candidate was placed 15th in a field of 16 pulling in just two votes.

Terrie Markesbery, manager of the town's general store said of the successful candidate: "She's perfect for the job.

"It's a low-paying, highly visible position. She has to do a lot of footwork."
