Council workers in the British city of Newcastle have been banned from calling women "pet". Officials say the affectionate term is disrespectful and women may find it offensive. Other banned words include "love", "darling" and "sweetheart". Staff are being sent on political correctness training courses to learn about "equality and diversity". A council employee said: "It's like they are trying to kill the local language. We are scared to talk to anyone now." Martin Callanan, Tory Euro MP for the North East, said: "These are traditional North East terms of affection. I can't believe anyone would be offended by them."0Comments | Be the first to comment!
