Beans means fines

23-03-2007 22:21

A council in Britain plan to hide cameras in baked bean tins.

The plans announced by London's Ealing Council hope to catch residents who put their bins out too early.

Tiny CCTV bugs will also be placed in house bricks as part of a £2 million scheme adopted by six councils.

Householders caught by the scheme could face fines of up to £1,000.

A spokesman for Tory-controlled Ealing council said: "To catch vandals and enviro-criminals, cameras disguised as anything from tin cans to house bricks will instantly email images to the council's CCTV control centre."

Local resident Danny Christie, 64, dubbed the scheme "utterly insane".

He said: "I've lived here all my life and have never heard of anything so screwed-up. Since when did forgetting to put your rubbish out make you a criminal?"
