Pupils at a primary school in Britain will have to wear goggles to play conkers.
Youngsters at Adlington Primary School in Macclesfield have been handed out protective glasses in case a piece of conker should get in their eye.
The children - who had been invited to bring conkers into school for a special contest - said they were happy to wear the protective frames if it meant they could continue their games.
I think the goggles made it safer because they can fly off the string
Calum Kendal, 10, said: "I think the goggles made it safer because they can fly off the string."
Miss Broadhurst, a teacher at the school, said: "Conkers are generally frowned on now... so we decided it was a case of better safe than sorry."
The Health and Safety Executive said they hope to end the "myth" that playing conkers is dangerous.
The agency said: "This is one of the oldest chestnuts around."
