Chemmy Alcott hopes appearing on 'Dancing On Ice' may help her achieve her dreams of competing in another Winter Olympics.

Chemmy Alcott hopes appearing on 'Dancing On Ice' will help her compete in another Winter Olympics.

The skier was injured in a 2010 horror smash in Canada which shattered her leg, and while surgeons reinforced her limb with titanium, her leg was left numb and not responding to her brain signals properly.

This is the best preparation. The fitness and the feeling you get on the ice - if I can do this on a tiny blade then hopefully I can transfer it to a wide ski.

However, after undergoing gruelling training for the ITV1 celebrity skating show, Chemmy hopes she can get back onto the slopes.

She said: "The first time I got on the skates, it took me 40 minutes to find my 'inside edge' because the brain-to-leg nerves were severed in my accident.

"I've got all this metal in my right leg and the skating is giving me the chance to get that brain pattern working before I hit the slopes. If it took me that long to 'communicate' downhill, it could be a disaster.

"This could get me back to the sport I love. I've done three Winter Olympics and I've got one more in me. I want to do Russia in 2014.

Despite the risk of further injury while competing in 'Dancing On Ice', Chemmy is most worried about losing too much weight.

She added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: "When you're a skier you need to maintain your weight to help your speed.

"You can't be a downhill skier if you have an attitude where you worry. But, yes, 'Dancing On Ice' could make or break my skiing."
