A US man has pleaded to be given capital punishment because he thinks he will get treated better on death row.

Billy Joe Johnson - who is already serving a 45-year sentence for a previous killing - has been convicted of another murder but told the Californian court he had heard the facilities on Death Row were better than what he currently has.

In a bid to convince the jury he should be killed, Johnson - who is locked down most of the day - testified he's murdered two other people and never been caught.
