An African woman married her dog " because it reminded her of her dad.

Emily Mabou, of Aburi, Ghana, wed the pooch in a ceremony attended by her priest and local villagers after "praying" to settle down with someone who had all the qualities of her father.

The 29-year-old said: "My dad was kind, faithful, and loyal to my mum, and he never let her down."

My dog is kind and loyal to me, and he treats me with so much respect.

Emily's family boycotted the wedding because they thought it was "a stupid step to combat her loneliness."

The woman refuted the family's claims, saying she had dated many men who were "skirt-chasers and cheaters" and even wants to adopt children with her new husband.

She added: "My dog is kind and loyal to me, and he treats me with so much respect."
