A US man got his puppy drunk on vodka.

Jared Levi Colony of Iowa City - who was looking after the dog called Pip - poured some flavoured vodka into the tiny animal's bowl.

The puppy became unresponsive and when the owner returned, 28-year-old Jared reportedly said: "Pip's just a little drunk right now."

Policeman Sergeant Troy Kelsay said: I suspect he thought it was funny

Pip was treated for alcohol poisoning at his local veterinary clinic and survived.

Policeman Sergeant Troy Kelsay said: "I suspect he thought it was funny. It isn't humorous at all."

Jared has been charged with animal abuse and could face up to two years in prison if convicted.
