An airport terminal in Hamburg was sealed off after police mistook 140lbs of frozen fish for a bomb.

The terminal was evacuated and armed SWAT officers stormed the airport after a seemingly abandoned trolley containing two blue plastic packages was reported.

As the ice in the packages began to melt, however, police smelled the rotting seafood and concluded the packages did not contain explosives.

We had to assume the worst until we knew what was on the trolley. Luckily just the fish went off, not a bomb.

An unnamed police officer quipped: "We had to assume the worst until we knew what was on the trolley. Luckily just the fish went off, not a bomb."

No-one has yet come forward to claim the fish.
