Grandmother beats burglars

A Chinese grandmother has beaten off burglars with the assistance of some feathered friends.

Ling Wan, 80 - who has had her home raided eight times in just six months - has shown who's boss by turning her apartment into a giant birdcage.

Her flat in the town of Changsha, southern China, now has its stairs sealed up, while a huge cage has been built around the entire property.

Ling can now only access her home by climbing up and down a ladder, which is locked on her balcony.

She said: "People said I should move somewhere safer. They can mock but it is very effective. I haven't had one burglary since I built it.
