A US pensioner mistook her hearing aid for a sweet.
Violet Bishop, 87, almost ate her own hearing device when she threw a small handful of chocolate treats into her mouth while watching the television.
She said: "I reached for my milk chocolate box and poured a couple of morsels in my hand and threw them back and started to munch. As I enjoyed the chocolate and caramel taste, it appeared that one of my Milk Duds was not as fresh as the others.
One was rather crunchy and I could not get it to soften up, no matter how hard I tried.

Violet eventually removed the 'sweet' to discover her hearing aid had in fact fallen from her ear into a box of Halloween treats.
She then spent $200 getting it cleaned and repaired.
