An Indian man has had 6kg of metal removed from his stomach as doctors fought to save his life.

As we progressed, we were amazed to find such a huge number of coins and pellets had passed into his intestines. Signs of chronic ulceration were apparent in the stomach.

Farmer Kamleshwar Singh complained to doctors of acute stomach pain, appetite loss and sleepless nights when they decided to operate on his abdomen.

However, as the procedure proceeded, medical experts were shocked to find 431 coins, 196 iron pellets, 17 bolts and three keys lodged in his stomach, and it was later revealed he had secretly been eating the items for nine months.

Unfortunately, Mr. Singh - who suffered from psychological problems - did not survive the surgery.

Bhojram Dewangan, of the Shreesti Institute of Medical Science in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, said: "As we progressed, we were amazed to find such a huge number of coins and pellets had passed into his intestines. Signs of chronic ulceration were apparent in the stomach."
