A British man attempted to outrun police in a tractor.
''Police tried to stop the tractor, but the driver refused and continued to drive off.''
John Davis tried to speed off from officers in the huge vehicle, which boasts a top speed of just 30mph, but he shot off the road and crashed through a gate and electric fence before ending up next to a railway line.
The 23-year-old man told Sevenoaks Magistrates' Court he had been pressured by friends to steal the tractor and to not give himself up to police, the Paddock Wood Courier reports.
Prosecutor James Nichols explained: ''Police tried to stop the tractor, but the driver refused and continued to drive off.''
The judge gave Davis a year's driving ban, told him to carry out 220 hours of unpaid work and ordered him to pay a total of £750 - £500 to repair the tractor and £250 in prosecution costs.
