A lost Australian man drove for nine hours in the wrong direction before asking for help.
The 81-year-old - who had only popped out to get a newspaper - said he failed to stop because he "liked to drive", but ended up 370 miles away from home.
Eric Steward claimed he took a wrong turn on the highway and then just hoped for the best.
Why would you want one of those? You can't get lost. There is no fun in that.
He said: "I didn't know where I was going but I knew it was somewhere, and with a bit of luck I would eventually find my wife again."
Eric eventually gave up and asked the police for help, much to his wife Clare's relief.
She said: "He's a good driver. Very focused, I knew that much."
Eric rejected a suggestion to get a satellite navigation system.
He said: "Why would you want one of those? You can't get lost. There is no fun in that."
