Gean Hodsdon, from West Lothian - who had originally planned to do a skydive as a way of celebrating the milestone birthday, but was banned by her doctor - took to the River Tay in Perthshire, despite the fact she has two replacement knees, lives in a nursing home and normally walks with two sticks.

Speaking after her adventure, the daredevil grandmother said: "It was great fun and quite an eye-opener. My knees bore up fine after all.

I don't feel like I'm 90 although my body does. I thought just having a birthday party would be a bit tame.
