Kevin Garwood, 61, from Gorleston - who holds three martial arts black belts in judo, jujitsu and weaponry - has developed special defence classes for his students, aged 50 to 76, using their government issued walking sticks, so they can feel safe on their own at night.
He said: "It just seemed such a shame that older people who had worked hard all their lives had become prisoners in their own homes. The standard issue walking stick is the most basic of weapons, but it's about teaching people how it can be used as the last line of defence."
