A French woman married her fiance a year after he died.

Magali Jaskiewicz's betrothed, Jonathan George, was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident two days before the couple's wedding was due to take place.

However, Magali, 26, was able to use an obscure section of the French civil code which allows posthumous marriages if all the arrangements for the wedding , including a date, were in place at the time of the death.

I am not really in the mood to have a wedding reception so we will just drink a cup of coffee and I will thank everyone who has supported me.

Magali was married at her local church with a framed picture of George next to her.

Afterward she said: "I am not really in the mood to have a wedding reception so we will just drink a cup of coffee and I will thank everyone who has supported me."

French authorities said around ten posthumous marriages are carried out in the country every year.
