A British home shopper was stunned when an explicit catalogue arrived with the slippers she had ordered.

The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) have upheld a complaint from the shocked woman, who said the 'Don't Be Timid' guide " featuring sex aids and erotic clothing - was offensive, irresponsible and unsuitable for unsolicited circulation.

MRP Direct apologised and said they had booked their catalogue to be dispatched into Home Shopping Selections (HSS) orders in good faith.

HSS - the company who supplied the slippers - said that all their customers were given the opportunity to opt out of receiving third party material and just assumed the complainant had not decided against receiving additional information.

In its ruling the ASA said that the catalogue was sexually explicit throughout and advised both companies to take care in future to target their marketing to avoid causing offence.
