Despite being married to Weatherfield businessman Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin), the Rovers Return barmaid - played by Shobna Gulati - will embark upon a steamy affair with the pub landlord, right under the nose of his long-term partner Stella (Michelle Collins).

Phil Collinson, show boss at the ITV1 soap, thinks the fact that viewers wouldn't expect such deception from Sunita will make her affair with Karl (John Michie) all the more gripping.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: "There has been suggestions about Karl's wandering eye but we're going to see it for ourselves. Sunita is not someone you would expect, which makes it even more brilliant.

"It'll play out for quite a while but all hell will break loose when Stella finds out."

Shobna recently admitted the relationship between her alter-ego and her husband - who have twins Aadi and Asha together - has changed in recent months, as Dev is "constantly running to her tune".

She said: "I think she realised halfway down the line that her children were the most important thing in her life, and she went back to Dev because of that.

"At the end of the day, I think the tables are turning in their relationship. She was the shop girl in love with him, and very much at his whim and fancy, but now he's constantly running to her tune."
