A homesick Chinese grandmother tried to abseil down a five storey building.

Zhang Yingfeng had been staying with her son in his apartment in Hebi city, Henan province when she started feeling homesick after being locked in the flat.

The 80-year-old woman was so desperate to return to her village, so tied a rope around her waist and hoisted herself through the window in the hope of climbing down to the street below.

I thought the rope was long enough to get me down to the ground but I forgot to allow for the amount I had to wrap around my waist before climbing out.

Firefighters were called when a neighbour spotted her dangling halfway down the building after she ran out of cable.

She said: "I thought the rope was long enough to get me down to the ground but I forgot to allow for the amount I had to wrap around my waist before climbing out."

Zhang was supported with a shovel from a third floor window before a rope ladder was used to rescue her.
