Tail Girl

The four-month-old girl, called Hong Hong - who was born with a small tail made from a fatty tumor within her spinal column - has successfully had an operation to remove the five inch appendage.

Her father, Hou, from eastern China's Anhui province, said he had been "shocked" to see the tail at birth, which had doubled in size.

He said: "I wanted to cut it off when she was born, but doctors suggested we wait as a newborn is too weak to take such a surgery."

Dr. Sun Jun, who performed the operation, said: "It's very rare. We have never seen anything like this before."
