A South African wedding party plunged into a lake when the deck guests were standing on collapsed.

Newlyweds Hoffman and Marli van der Walt - who had invited along 80 loved-ones including an 88-year-old grandmother, the bride's wheelchair-bound mother and a baby - were shocked when they landed in the water after the wooden decking they were posing for a photograph on cracked in two.

It was pretty frightening at first - people tried to grab hold of each other for safety

A guest said: "One minute we were all standing together, waiting for a photograph to be taken, and the next thing I knew I was underwater. It was pretty frightening at first - people tried to grab hold of each other for safety."
