A Chinese couple have been left stunned after a giant catfish burgled her house.
''When I was picking up things from the other side of the table, I suddenly touched something cold and slippery, and it was moving!''
Xu Xianmin and his wife were devastated when they returned home to find their property in Changji, Xinjiang Province, had been trashed and assumed they had been the target of a thief until they saw the slimy ray-finned animal wriggling around on the floor.
Xu explained: ''I thought my home had been ransacked by thieves. The table was turned over, and stacked plastic bottles were everywhere.
''When I was picking up things from the other side of the table, I suddenly touched something cold and slippery, and it was moving!''
The couple do not live anywhere near a pond or river and are baffled as to how the catfish got into their home, which had all the doors and windows locked and nothing had been taken from it.
