At just three weeks old the baby cub - who was nicknamed Peanut - was found at Salisbury Crematorium in Whiltshire, South West England, after making a loud banging noise against a headstone.

The director of wildlife organisation Creatures in Crisis, Kevin Drew, was called up and immediately saw to the young fox.

He ended up using wire cutters to free the distressed little mite.

Peanut is well on the way to full health and will more than likely be let out into the wild in a few months' time.

Drew recalled the incident to the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''We had a call reporting what may have been a kitten making noises in the cemetery over by the gravestones.

''We attended the scene and there was a fox cub with its head stuck in a peanut butter jar, trying to lick the peanut butter out.

''The jar was stuck fast on its head. If we had been there any later it very well may have died.''
