Britain clones its first dog

A dog has been cloned for the first time.

''I saw it being born and it looks exactly like Winnie. It is identical.''

Winnie, a 12-year-old dachshund, was reproduced as a puppy after her owner Rebecca Smith, from west London, won a £60,000 contest to clone a pet.

Cloning company Sooam Biotech - who ran the competition - took a sample of Winnie's skin to their laboratory in Seoul, South Korea where they successfully reproduced a 'Mini-Winnie' replica of Ms Smith's precious pooch.

The 29-year-old will appear on Channel 4 documentary 'The £60,000 Puppy: Cloning Man's Best Friend'.
