Bud, a seven-year-old greyhound-collie cross had been in a dog home for over 1000 days before being rescued by dog lover, Ian Corns, who fell in love with his new fury friend after seeing him on Paul O'Grady's ITV show 'For the Love of Dogs'.
His new owner said: ''When I saw Bud on the Battersea programme I couldn't stop looking at him. His character shone through and he reminded me so much of our old Collie-cross Rune.''
Bud had been given to Battersea Old Windsor home when he was just six months old and it is believed that his size may have been the reason for the delay in getting a new owner.
Kaye Mugha, the centre manager at Battersea Old Windsor, said: ''Since Bud arrived at Battersea the charity has re-homed more than 5,500 dogs - yet Bud was constantly being overlooked.
He's such a wonderful dog with a great personality. But as soon as Bud appeared in Paul's show the phone started ringing off the hook.
''When we spoke to Ian and his family everything seemed to click into place - they're a great match for him.''
