The homeowners, who lived in a Grade II listed 18th Century house in Market Harborough, discovered a sticky substance oozing from the walls and out of their light fittings, and when the matter was investigated further they discovered a huge bee hive had been created in their attic.

The pair decided took the unusual matter to their insurance company Ecclesiastical Insurers who safely removed the infestation and replaced the destroyed ceiling, the Mirror Online has reported.

Speaking about the discovery, a spokesperson for Ecclesiastical said: '' The couple noticed a patch and on closer inspection they could see that the substance was sticky and coming through the light fixtures.

''They also noticed a lot of bees around the house and at this point sought an expert view.''
