Cricket match chaos as owl lands on stumps

A 25-year-old sportsman, Steven Franklin, was searching for his pet owl Shadow when he realised his beloved pet had decided to join in the game.

The owl - who had squeezed through the bars of his aviary - had made his way down to Castle Eden Cricket Club where he interrupted a cricket match by swooping down and landing on the equipment.

Steven - who was eventually reunited with his pet - said: ''I thought it was hilarious, especially how he landed on the stumps.

''I had no idea he even liked cricket. Maybe he could be the team's new mascot?''

The owl has now been returned to his owner, and the cricket match was allowed to continue.
