Pooch named World's Ugliest Dog

A 14-year-old Chinese canine has won the World's Ugliest Dog title at the annual competition in California.

A Chinese pooch has been named the World's Ugliest Dog.

The 14-year-old Chihuahua, named Yoda, clinched the title at the 23rd edition of the annual competition held at Sonoma-Marin Fair in California, because of the animal's bloodshot eyes, scruffy tufts of hair and long tongue.

But there were no complaints from the dog's owner Terry Schumacher of Hanford, California, who took home $1,000 in prize money thanks to her pooch's triumph.

Ms Schumacher admitted when she first saw Yoda - who she named after the Jedi master from the Star Wars movies - the dog groomer thought the canine was a rat.

Yoda goes to work with her owner and even eats the same meals as the Schumacher family.
