Dog receives jury summons

A dog was asked to report for jury duty.

''It probably picked up that IV, which is usually after his names, from one of the databases and put it into is first name slot in the jury system.''

Barrett Griner of New Jersey, in the northwestern United States received a letter addressed to his 5-year-old German Shepard IV Griner and found a summons requesting the pet report for jury service at Cumberland County Court inside.

He told Reuters: ''It was just funny. I got mail for my dog. I hope that the judge finds that kind of humorous. That's all I need is to have the local county and judge think I'm making a mockery of his courtroom.''

Court officials have confessed that a computer glitch caused the mistake and claimed they do not expect the animal to attend court.

The local trial court administrator Mark Sprock said: ''It probably picked up that IV, which is usually after his names, from one of the databases and put it into is first name slot in the jury system.''
