Leonie Müller, 23, decided to give up her permanent home in the spring after becoming disgruntled with the traditional property market and has instead taken to living on a train, reasoning that her £240 nationwide monthly season ticket is cheaper than paying rent.

She told the Washington Post newspaper: ''It all started with a dispute I had with my landlord.

''I instantly decided I didn't want to live there any more - and then I realised: actually, I didn't want to live anywhere any more.''
