Dubai commuters are being offered lavish prizes to take public transport.

The public are being offered gold gifts for helping car usage in favour of buses and trains.

According to the BBC, the campaign is part of celebrations for Public Transport Day on November 1 and commuters could win the precious metal in a bid to encourage mass transit instead of the use of private vehicle.

There will be prizes worth one million dirham (£170,000) up for grabs, including £1,700 for a street-ball tournament.

However, only those committed to using public transport will have a chance to win, because those hoping to enter the competition must own a a Dubai travel card to enter.
