The fitness chain David Lloyd have reportedly set up a new session called Napercise, which allows people to cosy up and enjoy 45 minutes if sleep in a single bed in the afternoon because it is claimed getting your forty winks burns calories.

According to the Birmingham Mail, the class will ''reinvigorate the mind, improve moods and even burn the odd calorie.''

And the debut Napercise course, which has been developed with bed retailer Dreams, will take place at the Sidcup site this weekend, and it is hoped the class will combat sleepless nights that ''everyday families'' endure.

Speaking about the innovative idea, a spokesperson from David Lloyd said: ''We're always looking for new ways to tackle the issues that everyday families face, which is what Napercise sets out to do.

''Filling an exercise studio with beds might look unusual, but if it proves to be a success, we're definitely excited at the possibility of rolling out the programme to more of our clubs down the line.''
