Shark fears after headless dolphin discovered

Georgia Tournay-Godfrey spotted the headless creature on Monday morning on a beach in Hove, East Sussex. This comes only weeks after a man took a photo of what he suspected to be a “shark fin” in distant waters on the beach in Goring-by-Sea.

She explained to The Argus newspaper: "My first thought was that the great white had it for breakfast.

"Its head was missing. It was pretty gruesome."

Despite the grim evidence, Paul Cox of the Shark Trust is unsure that a shark killed the dolphin.

In response to photos of the beheaded dolphin, he told The Sun Online: "We've had many cases in the past where people have seen stranded marine mammals with injuries that are assumed to be bites.

"Quite often injuries are incurred post-mortem and from scavengers. Even birds and crabs can do a lot of damage."
