Learner driver supervised by parrot

''Say hello to my little friend. Unfortunately his owner has a provisional licence, and since parrots are not authorised to supervise learner drivers, her vehicle has been seized by us.''

A learner driver was caught speeding on a motorway with only a parrot supervising her.

The woman was pulled over on Sunday (26.01.14) morning in Yorkshire, north east England, on suspicion of speeding, and police officers then realised she was accompanied only by her pet parrot.

West Yorkshire police took to twitter to post an image of the bird in its cage and the message: ''Say hello to my little friend. Unfortunately his owner has a provisional licence, and since parrots are not authorised to supervise learner drivers, her vehicle has been seized by us.''

Drivers who hold a provisional licence are not permitted to drive on motorways and must be accompanied by a qualified driver at all times.
