A library book due to be returned 75 years ago was delayed by the war.

Robert Lockman Sr. was just nine years old when he borrowed children's book 'Val Rides the Oregon Trail' written and illustrated by Sanford Tousey, from Osterhout Free Library, in Wilkes-Barre back in 1941.
And on Wednesday (15.02.17) his son, Robert Lockman Jr returned the book to the library and it was a staggering 75 years, two months and 13 days overdue - as the date-stamped was December 2, 1941 - and five days later was the attack on Pearl Harbour that led the US to enter World War II.
Lockman Jr told Citizens' Voice: ''I thought it would be the right thing to do. My dad was an honest guy. That's what he would have done. My dad was nine when he took that book out. I guess he just never took it back; that's not like him.''
He had found the book in the basement of his Shavertown home, some three years after his father passed away in 2013.
And as overdue library book fines go, Mr Lockman would have racked up a bill of $554 - as the 1941 rate was two cents a day. But luckily no fee was charged for its late return.
The book was returned in good condition but it's unlikely to go back into circulation.
