A man has found E.T.'s face in a tree trunk.

''The weather has got a lot colder in the last week and I was getting some additional logs ready to keep the place warm for our guests.''

Hotel owner Billy Harley was chopping down a tree to get logs for his fire when he discovered the strange markings inside the plant which looked scarily similar to the alien which featured in the popular 1982 Steven Spielberg film, 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'.

He said: ''The weather has got a lot colder in the last week and I was getting some additional logs ready to keep the place warm for our guests.''

''I put the chainsaw through a trunk and there was ET staring back at me. I phoned home and my wife brought a camera out to take some pictures.''

The shocked man said he is now unsure of what to do with the tree trunk, and is considering making it into a piece of furniture or naming a room after the loveable alien in his hotel, The Uig, in the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

He added: ''We're not quite sure what to do now. We could turn ET into a coffee table or a bar stool maybe.''
