Tom Morgan, from the Bristol-based company The Adventurists, got inspiration from the Pixar movie 'Up' and tied helium balloons to a chair and soared the sky at 8,000 ft near Johannesburg, the BBC reported.

However, his fun adventure came to an end when he was told that strong winds were on their way - meaning he had to cut the balloons one-by-one in order to lower himself to the ground.

He said: ''It was a fairly indescribable feeling, wafting across Africa on a cheap camping chair dangling from a load of balloons.

''Sort of peaceful and terrifying in equal measure. I came here to see if we could organise the world's most ridiculous air race and after that flight I'm more convinced than ever that we can.''
