A man upped his search for a wife by using a 'lonely-hearts' letter dating back to 1865.

Before Tinder was invented, eligible men had to put adverts into the local newspaper and this one particular letter inspired a modern man, named Drew, to use it for his own dating profile, the Mirror Online reports.

The letter reads: ''I am 18 years old, have a good set of teeth and believe in Andy Johnson [the 17th US President], the star-spangled banner, and July 4.

''My buckwheat looks first rate, and the oats and potatoes are bully. I have got nine sheep, a two-year-old bull and two heifers besides a house and a barn.

''I want to get married. I want to buy bread-and-butter, hoop-skirts and waterfalls for some person of the female persuasion during life.

''That's what the matter with me. But I don't know how to do it.''

The 19th century was posted on Twitter and one Tinder user have emulated the lonely-hearts advert but it's not reported whether love was found for the hopeful bachelors.
