Hundreds of Scrabble players are to go head-to-head to be crowned World Scrabble Champion at the MSI World Championships in Lille, France this summer.

This prestigious event, supported by Mattel and Mindsports International, will see accomplished Scrabble players from around the world compete against each other for the games most sought after title.

The tournaments will also see several non-English speaking contestants take part.

Players will compete in 24 rounds of Scrabble in order to qualify for the seeded play-offs.

The eight top placed players will proceed to the play-offs and the ultimate champion will be announced on September 4.

Those competing from the UK include Austin Shin, Brett Smitheram, Femi Awowade, Natalie Zolty and Wayne Kelly The lexicological experts will compete against a multitude of players from 27 countries who will battle it out for the Scrabble crown, as well as the opportunity to play and win a share of a prize pool worth €25,000 [roughly £21,000].

The matches takes place from August 24 to September 4.
