Nurse is saved from lightning strike by her flip flops

''A fireman said it was one of the most unusual cases he'd seen.''

A woman dodged being struck by lightning because she was wearing sandals.

Jennifer Lyons from Chippenham in South West England was chatting on the phone when the lightning bolt struck a satellite dish and set her house on fire, the Daily Mirror newspaper reports.

However, she avoided serious injury because the rubber soles on her flip-flops stopped the electricity from passing directly through her body.

Jennifer said of the incident: ''It was like a bomb. I was knocked back. There was debris everywhere.
