Pestaurant, which passed through the University of Surrey in Guildford, south east England, is serving critters including maggots, buffalo worms and crickets, the Surrey Advertiser newspaper reports.

Pestaurant's Kate Kinnes said: ''Bugs take less water to farm, and less space and they do not give off methane. There is a real strong reason to look at them as a food source...

''People like the opportunity to try it. They say there is no way they will try it, but most give it a go.''
