Santa Claus fined

A man dressed as Santa Claus has been fined for climbing a statue.

''There were cheers when he was rescued but as soon as he was down the police put him in a van and everyone booed.''

The odd incident happened in Glasgow, Scotland, with the man deciding to mount the city's Duke of Wellington statue while wearing the festive costume, and sitting on the Duke's horse.

Police officers called the fire service in an attempt to remove the unidentified man - who was believed to be a campaigner for children's rights - from the sculpture, but a growing crowd were annoyed by the incident as they believed the individual had done nothing wrong.

One passer-by, Ruth Broers, told the Metro newspaper: ''It was hilarious and all very good natured.
