Surgeons found 12 gold bars in a man's stomach.

Doctors at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, in Delhi, India, were shocked to find 400g of the precious metal hidden inside the man after he was admitted due to digestive problems.

The 63-year-old businessman - who complained of vomiting and difficulty going to the toilet - told surgeons he had swallowed a bottle cap during an argument with his wife but failed to mention consuming the gold bars.

Dr CS Ramachandran told the BBC: ''Finding gold in a patient's stomach was something unbelievable. We found 12 gold bars lying in a stack in his stomach.''

Following the operation, customs authorities arrived at the hospital to confiscate to the bars.
