Thames fort goes on sale for £500,000

''It could be transformed into something really special - a stunning home, a hotel, a sanctuary or something to do with outdoor pursuits. There are so many possibilities.''

A bombproof fort in the middle of the River Thames has gone on sale.

The property known as the Grain Tower Battery - which was built in 1855 - is located just off the Isle of Grain in Kent and has gone on sale for £500,000 despite being unreachable by foot at high tide.

The fort - which requires a complete renovation - is being marketed by Riverhomes as the ideal retreat, casino or nightclub, reports The Mirror newspaper.

The agency's director Nigel Day said: ''It could be transformed into something really special - a stunning home, a hotel, a sanctuary or something to do with outdoor pursuits. There are so many possibilities.''
