Residents are being frightened by toy dolls.

People in the town of San Clemente in California, in the Southwestern United States were shocked to find toy dolls which bear resemblance to their daughters left on their doorsteps, the Metro newspaper reports.

The figures have been left outside eight houses belonging to the families of a group of girls who go to school together.

Orange County Sheriff Lieutenant Jeff Hallock said: ''We're examining the dolls in an attempt to identify who may have manufactured them.
