Sydney V. Smith encased her neck in 15 copper rings for five years in a bid to elongate her limb to replicate her favourite animal, which was inspired by a trip to Thailand and Burma where she met Kaan Lahwi tribes who wrap coat hangers around their throat.

Speaking to The Huffington Post about her animal aspiration, the Los Angeles born female said: ''I got it up to nine or 10 inches. But I started missing the things I used to do before, like hiking, running and swimming. With these rings, I can only go in waist deep [in the pool].

''[But] I've always had a long neck.''

However, Sydney found her body disfigurement made her unsociable.

She explained: ''A fast lane change is scary when you don't have free range of movement.''
